We want to inform you about the processing of your personal data

KWF Dutch Cancer Society and Pink Ribbon have joined forces. The organization and management of both organizations have been merged. Your personal data is processed by KWF. Below you can read how we do that.

We depend on your contribution to achieve our goals: less cancer, more cures, a better quality of life for cancer patients, and good care if you are no longer able to recover. Whether you do this through a donation, volunteering, sharing a campaign, or signing a (online) petition: all help is greatly appreciated. And indispensable for achieving our mission. To establish mutual trust between you and KWF, we are happy to inform you about how we handle your personal data.

KWF Dutch Cancer Society is responsible for processing your personal data. We consider it highly important to handle this with great care. This includes:

  • that we treat your personal data confidentially
  • that we take security measures to protect your personal data from loss, unauthorized access, or theft
  • that we delete data when it is no longer needed for our activities

In order to finance cancer research, we rely on donors and volunteers. When you sign up with us, we receive your personal data. For example, when making a donation, you provide your name, address, and bank account number. These details are necessary for registering and processing the donation. We also receive information from collectors, petition signers, individuals organizing events, or those who contribute to KWF in other ways.

Furthermore, when you utilize our services, your personal data may be processed. This includes instances such as contacting our Service Desk via email or phone, or signing up for our newsletter.

  • register who has signed a petition
  • handle any disputes

We also use the email addresses of our donors to reach you through social media channels, such as Facebook, if you have given us permission to do so. For instance, to inform you about new campaigns and request new donations. We only do this with your consent.

If you do not wish to receive such communications, you can always inform us and unsubscribe.

KWF aims to inform you in a relevant manner. We collect additional data and engage in profiling to tailor our messages as closely as possible to everyone's preferences. This means that we use lifestyle and socio-demographic data at household level (such as estimated age range or family composition) from EDM. This is a reliable external source. More information about EDM's data can be found on their website at evenoverdata.nl We also use public sources such as CBS.

Based on this data and our own database, we gain a better understanding of your interests. Our database contains the information you provide us through forms, donations, click behaviour in our emails, and behaviour on our websites. With better insight, you receive messages and information that are more tailored to you. Additionally, we save costs by communicating more effectively. Sometimes we also conduct desk research and gather publicly available information. This includes prominent positions, wealth statistics, public LinkedIn posts, or information from news articles.

If you do not want KWF and Pink Ribbon to apply profiling to you, please contact Service via [email protected] and withdraw your consent for cookies. This can easily be done through the cookie settings found at the bottom of each page.

KWF does not sell your personal data to third parties. However, we sometimes share personal data within partnerships if it is necessary for carrying out our mission. Additionally, we occasionally utilize IT systems from suppliers. In such cases, the supplier may also have access to the system where your personal data is processed.

We always ensure that these third parties meet sufficient safeguards regarding privacy and security.

We do not retain your personal data longer than necessary. Our aim is to destroy personal data of donors once it is no longer needed to achieve our goals. Some data is retained due to financial and/or fiscal obligations, in which case we keep your data for 7 years. After this period, we carefully delete your personal data.

  1. You have the right to request access, correction, or deletion of your personal data.
  2. You also have the right to object. This means you can object to the use of your data by KWF for charitable purposes, such as using your data for our campaigns.

You can always file a complaint about the use of personal data by KWF, either directly with KWF or with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

When you make a request, we assess whether we can process your request. We cannot do this if we do not know who you are, or if you have made a similar request less than 6 months ago.

If we accept the request, there are situations where we may have to refuse it. For example, if the protection of the rights of third parties outweighs your request. This may occur if your request for access also involves the personal data of other individuals. If we reject the request, we will provide a written explanation of why we cannot fulfill it.

If you disagree with our decision on a request for access, correction, deletion, or objection, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Have you made a donation? Then we may use your address, email address, or phone number to inform you about our new campaigns. This communication may occur via mail, email, or phone. In every email or after each phone call, we provide you with the option to unsubscribe from this form of communication. You can also send an email to [email protected] to unsubscribe.

Our website contains multiple links to third-party websites. We advise you to read the Privacy Statement of the website you visit through our reference. We do not take responsibility for how third-party websites handle your personal data.
